HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF GREATER LA

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles

In December 2017, the Creek Fire roared through the southland burning over 15,600 acres in LA County and leaving charred ashes where homes once stood. Families lost everything they owned that day. Their homes burned down to the foundations. FEMA was only able to provide minimal assistance and for many families. The insurance money was completely absorbed by the banks holding their mortgages. Now these fire victims must continue to make mortgage payments on homes that are no longer standing.

Sadly, this is a common story following a natural disaster, but Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) is working to help families rebuild, repair and restore their homes and property. Often, we think of the emergency relief efforts during and immediately following a natural disaster. But what happens months down the line? That is when Habitat LA can help.

Habitat LA has completed major and minor repairs on 300 owner-occupied homes in the Los Angeles area and has built 800 new or completely rehabilitated homes. Habitat LA carries out repair and construction activities with professional staff, subcontractors and volunteers.

Habitat LA is utilizing available resources, including grant funding, volunteer labor, and more to help repair wildfire affected neighborhoods to support cleanup and repair efforts. The types of repairs currently offered include roof repair, window repair, fence repair, water tank cleaning, water tank replacement, overall structural repair, external or landscaping repair, pervasive smoke odor restoration, soot damage restoration, some loss of possessions, future fire prevention efforts, and more.

Habitat LA is working to bring people and corporations together to help rebuild homes, communities, and hope! We invite you to join us and help build a greater Los Angeles.
